How to Fest

We are excited to offer our AiM community, near and far, a chance to experience films together. Here’s everything you’ll need to know to make the most of your online Africa in Motion Film Festival experience. When you create your account, you’ll have the opportunity to watch premieres, attend talks and other online events.

Watching Films

  • Where are the films?

    Where can I access the films?

    Our 2022 film festival programme is available both online and in person this year. 
    Most online films will be available for the whole duration of the festival, 11 - 20 November 2022 on Eventive, our online platform. Once an audience member presses 'play' the film will be available for 48 hours, after which access to the film will expire.

    In-person screenings, talks, workshops, and events will be held at the Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) and the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA). 

     

  • I am based outside the UK, can I watch anything?

    Most of our online screenings in the programme are geo-blocked to the UK only. However, please see below some film availability exceptions. The following films are available in wider regions:

  • For how long are films available for?

    Online screenings of films will be available to view to ticket/passholders from 11 - 20 November, 2022 on Eventive. Once an audience member presses 'play' they will have 48 hours to watch the film after which their access will expire.  Most online films are available for the entire 10-day window, except for the following films, which are available for a limited window only:

    • FEATHERS - Online, available in UK only from 18th to 20th November. In-person, screening at CCA (Glasgow) on 19th November.
    • SPOTLIGHT: YUNG NOLLYWOOD  - Available in UK & Nigeria only from 15th to 20th November
  • Do you have audience capacity limits?

    The following films have audience capacity limits online upon request from the distributor(s).

  • How do I get access to watch films?

    In order to watch the films:

    Online

    1. Click on the 'Buy Online Tickets/Watch' button and register for an account, or 'Buy Pass' for the online programme and register.
    2. Once purchased, 'unlock' your access. Once you click 'play' you have 48 hours left to watch the film.

    In-person

    Please purchase tickets directly from our partner venues CCA (Glasgow) and Glasgow Film Theatre.

     

Purchase and Availability

Passes are available for our online programme only. Standard pricing (£15/£10).
Purchasing of individual tickets is on a sliding scale. Price start from £0 for shorts programmes, and £2 for feature films.

Access at the Festival

We are committed to ensuring that the festival is as inclusive and accessible as possible.

Films listed with this icon will have full closed captions available. All feature-length films and documentaries will have full closed captions. In addition, all other films in our programme that contain dialogue will have English subtitles. Content and trigger warnings

Please see individual programme pages for information about content and trigger warnings. We have also endeavoured to add warnings prior to the start of a film where possible.

How to Make the Most of Your Experience


Here are some tips to optimize your experience!

  1. A festival pass is the most optimal way to enjoy the online programme.
  2. Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for the exact date and time of the events.

  3. International Audiences: Most feature films and short films will not be available internationally due to rights restrictions, but there are some exceptions (see above in 'Watching Films' section). However, all talks and events are free to anyone all over the world.

System Requirements and Devices

The films can be played from multiple devices (including iPhone/iPad and Android devices) and Chromecast to connect the device to a TV to watch the films available on the platform. We recommend using an HDMI cable to connect to your TV for an enhanced experience.

What are the system requirements?

You can watch content on PCs running Windows 7+, and Intel or Apple Silicon based Macs running macOS 10.12+. You can also watch films on Android tablets and phones using Chrome, and on iPhones and iPads using Safari.

If you have an Apple TV, Fire TV or Roku device, you can use our dedicated apps for these platforms. If you have a Chromecast, you can cast to it from Chrome on your computer or Android phone. Detailed instructions are below.

How do I play the movie on my TV?

If you have an Apple TV, Chromecast (3rd gen or later), or a smart TV enabled with AirPlay or Chromecast, set your computer, mobile device or browser to “AirPlay” or “cast” to the TV device. Unlock the film, then set your player window to full-screen using the icon at the lower right.

Chromecast will work on select Android devices, see instructions above. Chromecast on iOS devices are not compatible with the Eventive platform.

Important note: Due to content protection restrictions, the Screen Mirroring feature on Smart TVs and other devices cannot be used. Many browsers built into Smart TVs and other devices will NOT allow protected content to play.
