We are delighted to present two audiovisual commissions inspired by films from our music strand, Setting Pace. The musicians selected are Nova Scotia The Truth and Gabriella Liandu. Join us in celebrating these two young Black female artists, enjoy the world premieres of both pieces, and hear about their creative process.
About the musicians
Film Title: Not A Good Girl
Winner of the Scottish Album of the Year Award 2020, Nova is a rap artist, singer and producer unafraid to challenge stereotypes and annihilate assumptions. She experiments with solo and collaborative works to create tracks with an independent sound. Her repertoire boasts features on Clash Magazine, NME, Mixmag, The Guardian, BBC Radio 1XTRA, KISS FM, BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, BBC Radio Scotland, Red Bull Music, The Skinny, Time Out London, The Basement x Nike BSMNT AIR MAX 90 campaign, Skiddle, BBC Radio Four amongst others. About the curator
Josh Kilimanjaro is a London-born, Scotland-raised Zambian who cut his creative teeth on the sunny shores of Dundee at DJCAD and then lived Edinburgh and Glasgow before returning to London. Josh has experience in many creative fields. Now focusing on music, the New Promoter opportunity by Filmhub Scotland fit perfectly with his desire to learn new skills and broaden his creative horizons. Working as Programme Coordinator at Africa in Motion, Josh has curated and produced three events as part of the 2021 festival edition; 2 original music commissions that will world premiere at the festival, a Producer Masterclass with award-winning producer Precious Mahaga and a special afternoon conference that will connect young Black and African creatives with some of Scotland’s finest creative agencies.
