About the Director

Born and raised in Paris by Senegalese and Congolese parents, Johanna Makabi is a filmmaker, writer, and producer. Her first short documentary film, Méduses, Afro Hair and Other Myths, which she also produced, won several prizes and was screened in festivals around the world.

After graduating in Film Studies at La Sorbonne and in Anthropology and Documentary from the Jean Rouch Master program in Nanterre, Johanna began to work as a casting director and writer. She has worked on Maïmouna Doucouré’s Cuties (Mignonnes, 2020) and for various brands such as Nike, Puma, and Carhartt.
