I Love You Like the Trees: Collaging Queer Devotionals with Words and Pictures Event

Writing Workshop by Martha Adonai Williams

I Love You Like the Trees: Collaging Queer Devotionals with Words and Pictures

A writing workshop for Queer and questioning Black people and People of Colour (BIPOC) with Martha Adonai Williams.

This workshop invites us to engage with the themes presented in Africa in Motion's Queer Africa short film programme through explorative writing and conversation. We will co-create a perspective with which to deepen our experience of the films, interrupting the idea of being a passive audience and instead cultivating a sense of a shared experience that is living, complex, and generative.

Queer Africa: A Collection of Short Films will be screened at the CCA cinema around an hour after the workshop.

Martha Adonai Williams (she/her) is a writer, facilitator, organiser, and friend. Her practice departs to and returns from Black feminist world making, always, with regular lay-overs in front of trash TV or at the allotment. Her work considers the wilderness and margins as sites of resistance, refusal, and homecoming. She works with writing and storytelling as therapeutic tools and as methods for community building.
