Discussion: Exploring African Jewish Histories

This year marks 30 years since Operation Solomon which brought more than 20,000 Ethiopian Jewish people to Israel. Join African in Motion and Bristol Ideas for a conversation on post-colonial migration, displacement, and African Jewish Histories.

Dr Abebe Zegeye and Dr Anbessa Teferra will be reflecting on the films Yerusalem (Levi Zini, Israel, 2021) and In Your Eyes, I See My Country (Kamal, Hachkar, Morocco, 2020) both screening at Africa in Motion Film Festival 2021.

SPEAKERS

Abebe Zegeye( Dphil Oxon) has conducted and published extensive research on African and Social Identiies. He has taught and worked in Africa, the Middle East, North America, Europe and Australia. Over the last year he was a senior research fellow at The Institute for The Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy. Previously, Director: Higher education Teacher Affairs, Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the Federal Republic of Ethiopia. Zegeye is the author of the acclaimed book, "The Impossible Return: Struggle of the Ethiopian Jews, The Beta Isreal (Red Sea Press, 2018). His forthcoming book is "Sites of Remembering" (African World Press 2022).
